CANVASSITY PAN AFRICA YOUTH FELLOWSHIP SEASON 3
To empower youth activist in Africa with skills and mentoring to engage elected representatives and government institutions to improve governance, raise accountability and foster advocacy for policy making and implementation
CANVASSITY has Impacted thus :
- Increased the knowledge and capacity of youth to effectively engage elected representatives and government institutions to improve governance and accountability
CANVASSITY Key Activities
Semester 1 is designed to be a 10 day program targeting forty participants from various African countries and the activities include: paper presentations, panels, breakout sessions, debates, reading exercises, film shows, simulation exercises, team exercises and pitch sessions, among others.
Half Day Internship to Government Agencies
During the cause of the first semester, the delegates will be grouped into teams and embark on a half day internship with elected representatives / government institutions to better understand the internal workings of government.
Pass It On (PIO)
After semester one, all participants shall be required to host a Pass-it-On activity within eight weeks. Through this exercise, each participant is expected to share their knowledge and skills with atleast forty youth in their locality.
6 Months Governance Project
Each Delegate is expectedto embark on his or her 6 months governance project to deliver a specific outcome. This requires among others: writing letters, paying courtesy/advocacy visits, conducting research, engaging media, visiting stakeholders, conducting different forms of activities as captured in the engagement worksheet.
ACDEG 55 Campaign
#ACDEG55 is a Pan African Youth Campaign aimed at galvanizing African youths to support and advocate for the signing, ratification, and depositingof the African Charter on Democracy, Elections and Governance (ACDEG) in their respective countries.Also, the #ACDEG55 Campaign is designed to popularize a cartoonised and youth friendly version of the Charter among youth in Africa dedicating 55 working days to amplify the status of ACDEG in each of the 55 African countries leveraging youth activities per country and social media promotion and a dedicated website.
5 Days Learning Visit to African Union Headquarters, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
As part of the learning experience, each year, under the Canvassity project, twelve delegates who demonstrated great commitment and reasonable advancement in their post-semester one activity are selected to participate in a week long Learning Visit to the African Union Headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. This visit is facilitated by the African Governance Architecture (AGA) under the Department for Political Affairs.
